    A Chorus Line
is a  musical with by composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Levan. The musical's book is by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante. The show is set on a bare stage of a Broadway theater. It focuses on 17 Broadway dancers, as they audition for parts in a chorus line. As show progresses, we learn about the performers and the choreographer, who discuss the events that shaped their lives and decisions to become dancers. After several workshops--and an Off-Broadway Production--
    A Chorus Line
    opened at the
Schubert Theater on Broadway in 1975. With its creation and direction by Michael Bennett, the musical was an unprecedented hit at the box office. It received 12 Tony Award nominations---and won 9. It also won the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The New York production on Broadway ran for 6,137 performances. Until it was surpassed by
    CATS
    in 1997,
    A Chorus Line
was considered the longest-running production in the history of Broadway. It still remains the 7th longest-running show on Broadway, spawning many successful productions around the world.
