    Description

These German early 1900's silverplated candleabras just take my breath away.  They are marked "Augsburg" with initials "JW" and are handmade as indicated by the word "handarbeit."
The style is simple yet at the same time extremely elegant.  My best guess is that they are from the 1920's to early 1930's, part of the Secessionist and Nouveau movements.
All handmade, the edges of the flowing "struts" have hand hammered indents along the edges, creating a very decorative design when viewed from the side and I would imagine that these little indentations capture the light and reflect it.  These candle holders are so shiny that it is difficult to photograph them well so we've provided photos in a light cube and in natural light.
    This listing is for
    the pair
of matching candleholders.  Each will hold 3 candles, so a total of six candles on your dining table, which is a lot of light!  The base measures 5 and 7/8" long x 2 and 7/8" wide and is supported by 4 silverplated ball feet.  The overall width of each candleabra is about 10.5" and the total height of each is just shy of 7.5" tall.  They are in amazingly good condition for their age and are very shiny with only some very fine, almost unnoticeable polishing scratches.   The base has almost a mirror finish.  One of the candleholders  has some superficial scratches near the corner of the base, about 1/4" square.  The top candleholder rim on one of these has a slight bend to the rim that would surround the candle, as shown in the photo above. This same candleholder is missing a screw under one of the bobeches but this does not affect the integrity of the piece.
There is not more than 5% silver plate loss overall and even this is not noticeable unless you look for it but we mention it to be complete.  There is some dust and we have not polished these.  The overall impression is very good condition.
I can't say enough about the extraordinary design of these.  They could fit in with nearly any decor:  Hollywood Regency, Paris Apartment, Arts & Crafts, Traditional English, Contemporary American, Art Deco, etc., etc.  They are decorative without being "fancy" if you understand what I mean.
