Description: Here we have an Amazing piece of Choctaw History, the 1872 Choctaw Hymnal Book with names and inscriptions from original Choctaws in the 1800’s. This in itself is a rare book, but with the history tired to it makes it that much more special. This Hymnal was the first published Choctaw Hymnal and is the sixth Edition and published by The Presbyterian Committee of Publication in Richmond Virginia. This piece has great provenance as it looks like it’s been used by several real Choctaw native Americans, with their names written in it and lots of inscriptions. Some of the names in this book come from very well known, historic Choctaw families. The names I was able to configure are Sweney Bell, Oscar Bascom, Ben Folsom, Alice Bell. When you look on the Dawes Roll, you can pinpoint these names on it, which gives great provenance and information on these people. There are also other inscriptions and names I cannot point out, but all of the writing is pictured in the pics in the listing. There is no telling what else could be tied to this book, I just cannot figure out what else it says. This book is in very used condition, but it still has all of its pages, and is in tact. This is a rare book as well as a great piece of history for the Choctaw nation. This came with all of the other Choctaw pieces I picked up together.
