    The Original 1863 Commemorative Medal for Veterans of Napoleonic Wars 1813-1815
    (Erinnerungs-Kriegsdenkmünze 1863 für Kämpfer von 1813-1815)

    This medal was instituted on March 17, 1863 by King Wilhelm I at the 50th anniversary of the Prussian declaration
    of War against Napoleon by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Awarded to all surviving veterans of 1813 - 1815 campaigns,
    who were recipients of the 1813, 1814 and 1815 campaign medals for combatants and noncombatants.
    Approximately 60.000 were given in combatant (bronze medal), noncombatant (blackened iron)
    and ladies (polished steel) version.
    Obverse: portrait of King Friedrich Wilhelm III facing left, below the dates 1813, 1814, 1815.
    Reverse: Crowned cipher WR (Wilhelm Rex) for King Wilhelm I and the date of institution of the award.
    The medal offered in this auction is combatant version made from bronze.
    Diameter 29 mm.
    Condition as seen on photos.
    Comes mounted on a piece of replacement ribbon
    which is just similar to original one (the central stripe should be yellow, not pink).
    The ribbon is UV NEGATIVE.
