We are offering for sale an exquisite and early, pair of silver plated, candlesticks manufactured by the Forbes Silver Company organized in 1894, in Meriden, Connecticut.
The candlesticks measure 5.50 inches high and 4.50 inches at the square. An elegant design of a flowered swag, held up in the corners, with a pretty bow have been embossed on the base and candle holder. I have never seen such a lovely design on a candlestick. A bobeche tops the candlesticks. To add to its beauty, Gorham Company spring loaded candle holders with candles and shades have been added to each of the candlesticks. The Gorham Company name was given to the firm in 1852 and remained so for many years. The silver plated candle holders and faux ivory middles each measure 10 inches high and fit into the bobeches of the candlesticks by pushing down on them until they snap into place. When a new candle is needed you just unscrew the top piece and a spring pops out. The candle is placed on the round top of the spring and pushed into the faux ivory holder while the top piece is screwed on. As the candle burns, the spring pushes the candle upward until a new candle is needed.
The top of the candle holders have a shade holder. The silver plated shades get pushed over the prongs for a secure fit. The elegant shades each measure 3.50 inches tall and 8 inches in diameter. When the candle is lit it shines brightly through the filigree design in the shade. The candle holders are
marked, “Gorham Company 010” and, “Patent Applied For.” They are circa: 1890’s. All the pieces are in
