The commemorative badge for the crews of German combat vehicles, or combat vehicle commemorative badge for short, is one of the rarest German military badges of the First World War. It was donated by Reichswehr Minister Otto Gessler on July 13, 1921. Since the Weimar constitution prohibited the (re)creation of medals and decorations, it did not have the status of a medal or decoration, but was considered a commemorative badge. It had already been planned during the war. Similar to the submarine badge, it is a combat badge. It was awarded exclusively to ex-combat vehicle crews who had taken part in at least three frontline operations, had been wounded or captured during an operation, or had performed a special act of bravery. In contrast, other well-known military badges such as the pilot's badge and the commemorative badge for airshipmen were performance or activity badges.
The combat vehicle commemorative badge is the forerunner of the Wehrmacht's tank combat badge donated in 1939.
The combat vehicle commemorative badge had to be applied for and procured at one's own expense.
This is a very good older jeweller's work, for example for veterans of the combat vehicle troop!
