The Prussian Firemen badge of honor was issued on May 25, 1922. There were two types of this medal -
for 25 and 40 years of loyal service. The 25 year award was silver plated, the 40 year award offered here is gold plated.
The fire brigade badge of honor was issued in two forms. The 1st form was stamped in one piece and had crossed
fire brigade hatchets or axes arranged under the helmet. The fire brigade helmet had an older form.
The 2nd form is of higher quality with three piece construction. The newer fireman's helmet has ax and hatchet crossed behind it.
The exact time for the model change is not known. However, it is assumed that the 2nd form was awarded from 1930 to 1934.
The badge is always unmarked, but Wilhelm Deumer from Lüdenscheid is known to be the manufacturer of this award.
Due to the years of service, the gold-plated medal of honor for 40 years is much rarer.
Oval plaque from tombac gilt, partly enameled. A soldered eyelet with a ribbon ring at the top.
Obverse:
Gold plated oak leaf wreath surrounding the edge, black enameled within the wreath.
In the middle, a fire brigade helmet, behind it crossed hatchet and a fire brigade axe, all gold-plated.
Underneath the two-line writing "
Für 40 Jährige Dienstzeit
" (For 40 Years of Service).
Reverse:
Gilded oak leaf wreath running around the edge.
Completely gilded and finely grained background with raised writing in 6 lines:
"Verliehen vom Preussischen Landes Feuerwehr Verband"
(Awarded by Prussian Fire Department Association).
Ver good condition as seen on pictures.
Mounted on a medal bar.
