    Instituted by Wilhelm II., the Emperor of Germany on 3 March 1918.
    Awarded to soldiers of the German armed forces, who were wounded during World War 1
    as the result of hostile action, including air raids.
    It was awarded in three classes - 3rd class in Black for 1-2 combat wounds,
    2nd class in Silver for 3-4 combat wounds and 1st class in Gold for five
    or more wounds (it could be also awarded posthumously).
    The badge offered in this auction is an original early wartime awarded piece
    made of hollow struck iron (magnetic) with black paint.
    Reverse with vertical needle.
    Heavily worn condition, as seen on the pictures.
    The black paint is partially worn off. Small rust spot on the helmet.
