On June 17, 1972,
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
played its 3,225th performance, surpassed the long-time champion,
LIFE WITH FATHER,
and became "the longest running show on Broadway -- EVER!" And it held the record for 10 years. The producers noted this landmark event by inviting back a few of the previous Tevye's and by issuing a special souvenir program. Photographs galore including photos of eight Tevye's from around the world -- from Japan to Iceland, photos of previous casts, photos and bios of the entire creative team. And photos and bios of the cast performing on the night of this historic event. Plus, emblazoned across the top of the front cover is the reason for the celebration -- "
3,225th PERFORMANCE".
This program was printed 50 years ago in very limited quantity. Fortunately at least one has survived -- one with abundant autographs. Program is in very good condition, showing some signs of shelfwear and a little darkened from age. Corners are slightly bent. Spine and bottom edge are slightly scuffed. A few inconspicuous creases on front cover and title page. 1/4" closed tears top and bottom of spine. All pages are present and firmly attached, clean except tor signature of actress Ruth Jaraslow beside her photograph. Altogether a most unusual souvenir from one of Broadway's classic, most beloved musicals issued especially for the night of this landmark event. By the way, Topol has signed
C. TOPOL
in reference to his given name, Chaim.
