    Description

    c.1863 Civil War Document
    THE SOLDIER'S RECORD
    Company I - 49th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers
Beautiful Hand-Colored Lithograph by Currier & Ives (1863)
    Gorgeous Period Frame
The frame may, or may not, be as old as the lithograph.  It dates between 1860s & 1920s, with thin board backing and nailed frame-in-frame construction.  The outer frame is oak, while the inner piece is typical period plaster over wood, with what appears to be its original brush-painted gold finish.
    Frame approx. 25.75" x 29.5"; visible paper approx. 15.5" x 19.5"
    More Details:
c.1863; printed by Currier & Ives for Act of Congress; the lithograph has hand-colorized top with land and water battle scenes; the record contains individual soldier records and list the unit's engagement including: Yorktown, Williamsburg…White Oak Swamp, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Fairfield, PA, and Funkstown, MD; unit mustered into service 1861 at Camp Griffin, VA; [Note: It was organized at Lewistown and Harrisburg in 1861: early war record of unit].

    CONDITION...
    ]
    - Amazingly well preserved, f
    rom a non-smoking environment
    .
    - The paper has age toning/yellowing, creases from having been folded, faint stains and small tears around the edges, and a larger tear running down from the top.  However, I do not detect any missing paper.
    - The oak frame has a few minor scuffs from age and handling.  The plaster is in incredible condition.  It has age cracking, as pictured, but no noticeable missing material.  (... which is extraordinary for plasterwork of this age.)
Overall, a superb piece, with bright colors, that displays beautifully.
The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?)  It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that
    there will be something
about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up.
PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING.  I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
