    Description

    1878 letter signed by Martin T. McMahon (1838-1906), who was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at White Oak Swamp and who served as aide de camp to McClellan, William B. Franklin and as chief of staff in the 6th corps.  Reaching the rank of Lt. Col. during the war, McMahon received a postwar brevet as brigadier general.  He had a postwar poltical career in New York state and also served as a judge.
