    Description

1866 autograph letter of Alexander McDowell McCook (1831-1903), a major general in the civil war and one of the "Fighting McCook" family.  1852 West Point grad with various corps commands and frequent blame for Chickamauga, though he was cleared by a court of inquiry.  Letter is addressed to Brig. Gen. Halpine relating to an upcoming soldier's convention at Cleveland; assigns him to a committee to request Rev. Henry Ward Beecher to serve as chaplain; McCook signs 3 times and there are also references to Gen. Leath and Gen. Este.  Pages adhered at top as result of prior mounting; interesting document worthy of further attention.
