    Description

    1865 autograph note or short letter written and signed by James Barnes (1801-1869), a civil war general.  Barnes started the war as colonel of the 18th MA; he was promoted to brigadier general in the spring of 1863.  He had combat service at Gettysburg, where he was wounded.  He served as a railroad engineer afte rthe swar.  Letter is datelined Springfield and is addressed to Brig Gen. W.H. Morris; mounted to album page.
